The three characters are reminiscent of the "Wayward Sisters" from Macbeth. Shakespeare's characters are probably influenced by the Norse Norns (deities of the past, present and future) and disrupt the usual meter and structure of his play.
To create this animation, I experimented with different ways of manipulating or reinterpreting time. The designs or "style frames" were created through both quick gesture sketches and long sessions of tweaking details. Multiple layers were rendered into individual video clips so I could manipulate them with live signal chains. This opened up many possibilities for blending and merging - both temporally and structurally. The dance between a collective body and separate figures was explored through the juxtaposition of two animation techniques: the figures shift between their own unique 'key-poses' but also flow together as a group influenced by elements of the fire simulation system (turbulence, heat etc.).
