TRANSCRIBING NATURE
semester topic „Land-Leben“04:30 min, Installation/ interaktiv Soundobject/Video, 2021
The sound installation „Transcribing Nature“ takes the marks left by
woodworms on wooden beams as source material to be processed into
signals audible to the human ear. By transferring the sequences of the holes
onto the paper stripes of a barrel organ, the code of tunnels is suddenly
translated into something seemingly melodic, yet composed entirely by
chance. The speculative archaeology of our ecosystem can be understood
as a method to illuminate the creative potential laying in the symbiosis among
species and aims to encourage individuals to explore the role as a transmitter
in similar processes.
