I See You – The Portrait as a Dispositive
ClassThe power of the moving image as an identity-shaping medium is at the center of this semester.
We examine how cinematic portraits shape complex identities and the mechanisms that turn them into icons. In doing so, we explore the interrelationship between the portrayed subject and the camera—focusing on class & gender, as well as expression, pose, or costume. We consider the moving image within its production contexts, before and after filming, its temporal structures, and its modes of visibility. How do image composition and post-production processes influence the perception of identity?
In the semester project, we engage with creative processes such as concept development, project planning, and treatment creation, while also deepening technical skills in cinematography, editing, and color grading.
