After burning joss paper

semester topic „ON DISPLAY – screens, streams and facades“

Video Game Installation, 2024

"After burning joss paper" is a digital art game where players explore a financial institution of the underworld as new souls. Paper products burned to them by physical family are transformed into wealth and resources in the Underworld, while souls can communicate additional needs to their family through dreams.
The project draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese family custom of "burning paper money to deceased family to fulfill any needs they may have in the underworld". It reflects on current values and social structures, and the role wealth plays in shaping our identity and social norms. It also encourages new perspectives on this ancient practice.
