MAMI WATA

semester project

dual channel video Installation, 4:3, color, sound, 2023

The installation MAMI WATA describes the spiritual perspective of black indigenous communities on the ocean. At the same time, it addresses the sad destruction caused by human activity, particularly in the western world. The installation aims to restore awareness of the spiritual dimensions of nature and the need to treat it with care. It calls on us to rediscover our connection to nature and build a sustainable relationship with the environment.

Indigenous communities often have a deep connection to nature and consider it sacred. Their spiritual thinking and mindful way of life is based on respect for nature and recognition of its divine presence. However, this view has been largely neglected by modern Western society, which has led to a careless approach to the environment.
