Kathi Kæppel (*1977 in Heidelberg) studied Visual Communication at the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin and Animation at the University for the Creative Arts, United Kingdom.

She has received numerous awards, film and project funding and has been a scholarship holder of the DAAD, the Fulbright Commission and the Freedom Foundation. Selected exhibitions and film festivals include: Biennale of Animation Bratislava, SK; Edinburgh International Film Festival, UK; interfilm Berlin, DE; International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, DE; Les Rencontres Internationales, F; sehsüchte, Berlin, DE; Houston International Film Festival, USA; Backup Festival, DE; Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, DE; Künstlerhaus Dortmund, DE; Galerie Berliner Kunstprojekt, DE; Galerie Parterre Berlin, DE. Her animated films have been included in the National Archive of the British Film Institute. Since 2009 she has been a regular jury member of the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film. Kathi Kæppel is a member of the Society for Animation Studies, the AG Animation as part of the Gesellschaft für Medienwissenschaften and the NECS - European Network for Cinema and Media Studies.

The design and artistic use of the moving image forms the center of Kathi Kæppel's artistic practice. Since 2019, her artistic work has been embedded in a scientific-artistic doctorate at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, as well as in the interdisciplinary research project of the Lucerne School of Art and Design "Moving in Every Direction - Artistic Research as a Contribution to the Development of Current Spatial Configurations for the Moving Image", which is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

Kathi Kæppel began teaching at the weißensee academy of art berlin in 2007. This was followed by teaching assignments at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle, Kunsthochschule Kassel, Universität der Künste Berlin and Hochschule Luzern Design & Kunst, among others. From 2014 to 2018 Kathi Kæppel was a visiting professor at the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. In 2022 she became a full professor at Trier University of Applied Sciences. Since October 2022, she has been teaching and researching as a visiting professor for moving image design at the Berlin University of the Arts.
