INTRODUCTION TO THE ART AND TECHNIQUE OF COLOR CORRECTION
SeminarRegistration from 18.10.2021 via: bewegtbild@medienhaus.udk-berlin.de
The workshop will be held in German language.
Introduction to the artistic and technical aspects of digital color grading with Da Vinci Resolve (Studio).
This course explains the basic functionality of the grading software Da Vinci Resolve and deals with the technical parameters of image signals and their interpretation and processing. In theory, we will look at phenomena of perception, the effect of contrast and color, and analysis of common artistic practices of color design in film.
In exercises and on our own project, we will practically experience the complete workflow of color correction, get to know the tools of the software and use them in a targeted manner. The course content covers both basic questions and the concrete handling of the software tools from the import of the raw material to the output of the finished film.
- How do we create colors in film?
- Developing approaches for your own artistic project
- Understanding technical parameters of the electronic image
- project settings Da Vinci Resolve
- material import and workflow
- Exposure, contrast, color balance
- Understanding and interpreting scopes, waveforms, histograms
- Gamma Curves, (Log & Raw)
- Qualifier & Keying- Tonal correction of individual color areas
- Masks & Tracking
- Noise Reduction and Motion Blur
- Look Up Tables (LUTs)
- Delivery - Presentation specific output and technical parameters
Depending on the regulations for dealing with the pandemic, the practical work takes place in presence. For the individual practice of the participants at home the installation of the software is recommended as well as the basic equipment of the own workplace with at least two monitors. The software "Da Vinci Resolve 17" is available for download here in the free version (limited functions):
