Can Art Save the Climate?
lecture and talkJürgen Claus (b. 1935) is a very engaged and inspiring artist and author. In his online lecture "Can art save the climate?" he will give an insight into his work and introduce other personalities from theory and art who are concerned with the relationship between art and ecology.
Jürgen Claus is considered one of the pioneers of media art and became known for his underwater art performances in the 1960s. Since the 1990s, he has been politically and artistically committed to solar and wind energy together with his wife Nora Claus.
Jürgen Claus was a Fellow and Research Associate at the American University MIT in Boston and was appointed professor at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne in 1991, whose foundation he had significantly prepared from 1987.
Jürgen Claus is the author of numerous standard works on art. These include "Kunst heute," "Expansion of Art" (both Rowohlt Verlag), "Planet Meer" (DuMont Schauberg), "Environmental Art" (Edition Interfrom), "SonnenMeer" (Wienand Verlag), "Windiger Protest" (Ponte Press, ed. with F. Alt, H. Scheer). "Liebe die Kunst" is the title of his autobiography, published by Kerber/ZKM. He also regularly writes articles for the "Kunstzeitung".
